Regular Season
After being officially formed in the summer of 1990, the Exiles held their first training session and player trials on the 28th October 1990. Mainly comprising of ex-Tonbridge Tigers (who had folded during the 1990 season) players they were soon under the guidance of their first head coach Graham Gosling, an ex-player.
The Exiles first ever game game within against the Ely Packers on 8th September 1991. The Exiles lost 85-3, but a new club was born. The first ever points were scored by Danny Child.
The Exiles readied themselves for an entrance to the BNGL by taking part in the 8-a-side Passball league which took place in the autumn of 1991.
Memories are sketchy of what happened, and we have no recorded scores for most of the games (please help us out if you know any), but we do know we lost every game and finished the season at 0-6. But we did get to play against Les Jackson (NY-NJ Knights), Mike Taylor (NY-NJ Knights) and Steven Hutchinson (London Monarchs) amongst other great names of the era.
We know that in the Leicester Broncos game, our points were scored by Simon Chiles on a 30yd pass from Darren Seal, a 5yd INT RET by Lee Hyland and a short run by Darren Seal.
Probably not the best warm up we could have had for BNGL division 4, playing against some of the best the country had to offer, but we enjoyed it and went back for more the following year!
