28-12-2009
The Kent Exiles Game Day Manager Angela Meares was recently presented with the John Slavin Award to recognise the outstanding game day management and fan experience the club provide at both Senior Division 1 and Youth Division levels.
BAFRA awards the John Slavin Trophy to the team with the best game management. Game management in includes categories such as the balls and ball boys, the chains and chain crew and the changing rooms. This year, the assessment also including spectator facilities including whether seating was provided, whether there was a commentator, a scoreboard, a referee microphone, and stadium clocks that the teams and spectators could see. The title is awarded to the team that has comes out best in an audit carried out by BAFRA members at each game.
The award is named after John Slavin. John was a long-serving BAFRA official and sometime director of the Association who sadly died in October 2005. In his memory, BAFRA has dedicated an award made to a team that shows commitment to improving the game experience for players and fans, as well as officials.
The Exiles have worked hard this past season to improve the Fan Experience particularly, and introducing a game day commentator, as well as music and a miked up referee to explain any penalties have all proved big hits with the fans watching the team.
The Kent Exiles would like to thank, and congratulate, the dedicated group of volunteers who run the game day crew.
